COVID-19: A Barometer for Social Justice in New York City
The article explores the gaps in mortality rates during the COVID-19. The higher morality rates of Black and Latinx persons from COVID-19 is discussed and allows for deeper discussion around long-standing public health inequity in the U.S. The author describes public health as deeply related to one's access to the basic necessities of life: employment, food, health care, housing and education. The CUNY Graduate School of Public Health & Heath Policy convened to conduct surveys from March-June 2020, surveys that found that socioeconomic challenges resulting from the epidemic were worse for Latinx and Black communities.
